Koto Katana
Shingunto Koshirae
Offered for sale is a Koto katana which has been greatly shortened over the years however still retains a cutting edge of 63.5cm or 25 inches. The hamon is suguha and although the blade has surface scratches, stains, and a couple of small nicks in the monouchi area, the jihada is still clear to the eye. There are no other serious flaws and I believe the blade can be studied and enjoyed in its current condition of polish.
The shingunto koshirae is nice, and it is complete and original to the blade however the handle binding has seen better days. It displays the typical signs of wear found on swords used in the New Guinea, and Island campaigns of the Pacific War.
Prospective Buyers can be the judge…………a 450 year old hand forged blade for little more than the price of a WW2 mass produced machine made blade.
